FAQ

Wine702 is a wine investment platform that’s democratizing fine wine investing. We provide clients with unparalleled access, liquidity, and transparency to world-class wines. Our wine and technology experts make it possible for everyday people to own the best of Burgundy, Bordeaux, and beyond. With our easy-to-use platform and team of portfolio advisors, you can finally have your profits and drink them, too.

You, the client, own the wines 100%. All wines in your portfolio are legally tied to your unique username, which we create when you open a Wine702 account. That means you will retain ownership of the bottles even if Wine702 goes out of business.

Every time you add wine to your portfolio, we’ll provide you with ownership certificates. These legal documents prove that you are the sole owner of the bottles.

Yes, you can! Upon request, we will work with our partners at the storage facilities to professionally photograph the wine in your portfolio. The photos cost $30 per case. This fee is waived for Premium and Grand Cru clients. We cannot take photos of wine futures since this wine isn’t bottled yet.

Wine702 sources wines directly from wineries, global wine exchanges, and merchants. Our goal is to purchase wine at its provenance. This approach ensures more market transparency than using intermediaries and helps us buy and sell your wines at a fair market value.

Our most popular wine buying regions include Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, and the Rhône in France, Barolo and Piedmont in Italy, and some regions in Spain and California. We also have our eyes on up-and-coming regions. We make it a priority to snag the next big thing, whether it’s from Australia, Chile, Argentina, or somewhere else.

Wine702 almost exclusively buys wines by the case. There are a couple of reasons for this:

  • Cases make it easier to verify provenance
  • Cases make it easier to verify provenance
  • The specialized wooden cases protect the wine during transit and storage

Wine cases come in many sizes but are typically sold in packs of 3, 6, or 12. Every once in a blue moon, we buy individual bottles when there’s a great investment opportunity

In the Wine702 Marketplace there is no minimum dollar amount required to create an account. As long as you have enough balance in your account to buy a wine that is available on the Marketplace, you can add that wine to your portfolio.

Collections are curated selection of rare wines hand picked by our sommelier team, highlighting some of the premier wine regions. These wines will be released on the trading platform on a frequent basis, enabling users to buy a wide range of elite wines.

Step 1: Fund your Trading account! Firstly, ensure you are transferring funds to your Trading account and not your Managed account. You can do this by clicking on the “Cash Balance” icon in the top right of the header, within your Trading account. Depending on your payment method, it can take up to 3 days for funds to clear, so make sure to fund early!

Step 2: Be ready when the Collection goes live! Collection details will be available via prior to the Collection going live, so you can identify the wines you’d like to buy. Need a little guidance, we will produce a download brochure for each Collection outlining why we selected these wines and why you should add them to your portfolio.

Step 3: Buy! When a collection goes live, select the bottle you are interested in purchasing and click the “Buy” button. You will then see a “Confirm Order” order button. Once you click this, the bottle will be added to your Trading Portfolio!

Step 4: Repeat!

It depends. How long you hold a wine depends on the style of wine, tannins, acid, and sugar levels. As a rule of thumb, Wine702 investors typically hold their wine for 5 to 10 years.

When you set up your Wine702 profile, we’ll ask you how long you plan to hold your investment. We will then purchase wines that will peak within that range.

Yes, on the Wine702 Marketplace we enable our clients to buy wine by the bottle instead of by the case. This allows clients to achieve a greater degree of diversity in their portfolio at a much lower investment level.
